Our work
Since 1802, in the Drôme Provencale village of Saint Auban sur Ouvèze, our family of farmers has harvested lavender, the worldwide symbol of Provence.
This work, intimately tied to our family history, has been handed down from father to son and is a passion that we are still proud to cultivate today. It is thus the core business of Le Chatelard.
Until the middle of the last century, our ancestors reaped lavender using a simple sickle. They had to tread the mountain in torrid heat to reach the plants, then growing only in the wild state.
Once cut, the lavender flowers were transported to the farm for distillation. Later, these methods were replaced by mechanization, which little by little relieved humans of this labour. Despite all the progress, we are strongly attached to this land, so beautiful in its natural wealth and heritage.
Here at Le Chatelard, our business is inspired by a respect for this heritage and for its values, by drawing from our childhood memories, our traditions and age-old knowledge, and by re-introducing natural customs of bygone days in order to offer you a range of products which portray this image of Provence which we most passionately wish to preserve for the generations to come.
In our 2010 catalogue, therefore, you will find our latest collection made from raw material sourced from our region, carefully chosen and skilfully crafted in our exceptional artisan Chatelard style.
