Au coeur des Baronnies #1 : Launch of our e-commerce website

Relive with us the launch of our e-commerce website: reflection, production and finally online. Here are all the steps of the creation of our website, a project initiated in spring 2016.

24 months later, we have presented you with the result. Let's look back at the realisation of this great challenge in stages.  

Defining the project


What story to tell? What features should we bring? What are our customers' expectations? What are our constraints? Before starting the project, we had to answer a lot of questions to create a site that would be the most like us and the most attractive to customers, both those who know us and those who will discover us through the site. This crucial stage therefore took a lot of time and involved many actors.

The graphic design


Lavender is at the heart of our identity, it is the pillar of the history of Le Chatelard. Naturally, we had to include it in our new website. We therefore sought to highlight it while modernising it and giving it back its letters of nobility. The graphic design of the site was therefore built around the colour violet, fine drawings representing the lavender sprigs, and watercolour paint which emphasises the details. Every corner of the site has been thought through: from the movement of the elements when you move your mouse over them to the vocabulary chosen. So you prefer the basket to be represented by a shopping bag or a cart?

The products


An e-commerce site means products for sale online. Our catalogue includes about 400 products, should we offer them all on the site? Is it logistically possible to send them all? Won't they break? We therefore chose not to include all of them, but also to reserve certain products for online sale only.

And then, we had to make our products sublime: prepare a photo shoot to show them to you from every angle, study them with a magnifying glass to provide you with their list of ingredients and have them testify to describe their function, their appearance, their specificity... This was a long and trying stage, but when a product sheet is displayed for the first time on the computer screen, we say to ourselves that the result is well worth the preparation time required.

The presentation


Teasing on the social networks Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn... newsletter sent to our customers, we were ready to let you discover our new website and its features. We now offer a site where everyone can buy our products online. In fact, many people realised that we were up to something. In the weeks leading up to the launch, we were setting up redirects, updates, which made our first site inaccessible. We received emails, Facebook messages and even phone calls from several people who were worried about getting a blank page on their browser. So thank you for your attention!

The first order


On 24 June 2019, we were ready for the launch of the site! The logistics platform was on standby waiting for the first package to be prepared. Even though we had done several tests, checked every feature of the site, there is always an apprehension when we go into the "for real" phase.

And then, a line appears in our computer order book! The first customer has filled his virtual basket with our products, and the e-commerce adventure begins for us. It's time for us to get back to preparing your orders, because we have deadlines to meet!
