The Story

The story of Le Chatelard 1802

1802 A date that has become a symbol

It was in 1802 at the foot of the village of Saint-Auban sur l'Ouvèze in Drôme Provençale that the Chatelard farm was built. Even today, a stone cut and bearing the inscription of the date attests to the construction of the farm. It alone symbolizes the transmission of a profession, on the same Provençal territory, of the know-how and culture of Lavender. This very important date in the construction of the brand's identity is reflected in its name.

1920-1946 Organization of agriculture

Until 1946, growing lavender was tedious. The families of lavender growers harvest by hand, using the sickle, the Lavender in the fields.
Following the Second World War, agriculture was modernized. Just like in other craft trades, across France, the cultivation of Lavender is experiencing changes in its processes.
Mechanization makes human work easier and improves productivity. Farms then grew.

1998 Sale of small sachets of lavender

In 1998, the Lavender sector was saturated, it became almost impossible to sell the production of the year. To overcome this problem, the founding family then decided to create their company with the aim of selling Lavender directly to retailers. Thus the brand Le Chatelard 1802 is created. The sale of small sachets of Lavender is then the first activity, and the first customer is in Nice.

2004 Establishment of the first soap factory

Following its development, the company created its own soap factory.
In its premises in Saint Auban sur l'Ouvèze, it then makes its own soaps by hand, following the traditional recipe for Marseille soap.

2012 Opening of the first stores

In 2012, Le Chatelard 1802 decided to develop its distribution network by opening its own shops.
They are then established in the south of France, on the Mediterranean coast in Nice and Grasse
